At NEW HOPE, we understand that the idea of traveling to a foreign country can produce anxiety. We have also
found that most families actually enjoy the travel even when they first may have thought they would not. Traveling
is a wonderful part of your child’s adoption adventure and a rich cultural experience for you. View our online
No one will be left alone in a strange country with a language you do not speak. Our staff will meet you at the
airport and “hold your hand” through the process, and be there for you until your departure to fly home. We have
staff in St. Petersburg, Pskov, Orenburg, Leningrad Region, and in Moscow for U.S. Embassy processing.
As many of our families will gladly share with you, the experience was not as anxiety producing as they had
assumed, and most truly enjoyed it and took advantage of what these cities have to offer. If other families are traveling at the same time, we will give you the names and contact numbers of these families.
As traveling time draws near, you will want to talk with our families that have gone just before you, to get the latest and most updated experiences. Prior to each trip you will receive from us a Travel Packet and trip specific emails with detailed information.
Country Information:
Hotels - In RUSSIA, Galina, Natasha, Victor and Irina are ready to make your trip as comfortable and convenient as possible. You will stay in one of the many popular hotels in St. Petersburg, a beautiful historic city with lots of sites to see, as well as in the other regions. Alternately, you can arrange with a travel agency to stay in apartments, which can reduce the travel costs considerably. You will also be escorted with your child in Moscow and through the U.S. Embassy.
Eating out - Parents are recommended to subscribe to the yahoo message board: Adopt_StPetersburg@yahoogroups.com. The discussion often centers on restaurants in St. Petersburg. There is a wealth of information that others share as they are always looking for inexpensive yet good places to eat. In our weekly updates, we also provide reviews of restaurants in St.Petersburg and in Moscow.
Air travel - Unless you are travelling to Orenburg, you will be flying into and from St. Petersburg on trips one and two. On trip three you will be flying into St. Petersburg, but returning home from Moscow. Many airlines provide connections to these cities and don’t forget that you will lose a day on the way there and gain a day on the way back.
Visas - You will need a visa to enter Russia and we recommend that you do not try to do this on your own. Paying a service is well worth the expense.
